History Made: Alexandra Trusova Delivers the Best Performance We’ve Ever Seen
Meet Alexandra “Sasha” Trusova, a Russian figure skater who secured a silver medal at the 2022 Olympics. A video showcasing her performance at the Skate Canada figure skating competition has gone viral on YouTube, accumulating 12 million views annually over the past three years.
Alexandra is an exceptionally talented skater, recognized for leading the technical advancement in women’s figure skating. Previously, quadruple jumps were predominantly performed by male skaters, with female skaters traditionally trailing behind men in executing jumps.
This delay wasn’t necessarily because women were unable to perform the jumps, but rather because it was deemed “inappropriate.” American skater Theresa Weld faced reprimand for incorporating a single salchow jump into her routine. Interestingly, this wasn’t due to technical or safety concerns. The issue arose when her skirt lifted above her knees during the jump, which was considered overly risquĂ©. Since then, times have significantly evolved, and jumps have become a fundamental component of any figure skating program.
Alexandra’s expertise with these jumps is likely a key factor in her series of medals in recent years. She has earned four bronze medals, two silver medals, and three gold medals, including at the World Junior Championships. Now, at eighteen years old, it appears that senior titles are imminent.
Alexandra Vyacheslavovna Trusova was born on June 23, 2004, in Ryazan, Russia. She is the eldest of her parents’ three children, with two younger brothers named Egor and Ivan. Alexandra began her training at the age of four in her hometown and advanced rapidly, relocating to Moscow in 2015 to further her training.
Just two years later, she competed in the Russian Junior Championships, finishing fourth. A few months subsequently, at the Junior Grand Prix final, she scored 73.25 points, setting a new junior women’s world record for the short program. Since then, Alexandra has continued to excel, winning medals and pushing the boundaries of women’s figure skating.
To witness what this talented young athlete is capable of, watch her performance at Skate Canada in 2019. At the start of the video, Alexandra is seen waiting backstage, dressed in an all black and white outfit reminiscent of Cruella DeVil, including her hairstyle.
She gracefully skates onto the ice and moves towards the judges’ panel. Then, in a charming gesture, she rests her head on the ledge as if weary. As the music begins, she propels herself onto the ice and starts her routine. Her skating is elegant and appears flawless, with the jumps adding an extra layer of excitement.
