A Sixth-Grade Teacher’s Dream Comes True as She Duets with Michael Bublé
Not many people can claim to have met one of their idols. Some of us get the golden opportunity to go backstage, or manage to make our way through the crowd for a handshake and a photo; these are truly unforgettable moments for fans. However, one fan achieved what countless others dream of: sharing a stage with Michael Bublé in front of a packed arena.
This is exactly what sixth-grade teacher Mrs. Diana Fairbanks did during Michael Bublé’s concert at Oakland’s Oracle Arena in 2019. In this heartwarming moment, Fairbanks appears unfazed by the crowd as Bublé accepts her request for a duet. The two then perform Disney’s “A Whole New World” together in a beautiful, harmonious duet.
At first, Bublé seems to assume that Fairbanks – who is holding up a sign – is simply trying to catch his attention and show her admiration (as most fans would likely do if they were in such close proximity to Bublé).
He was then shocked to see the other side of the sign, where it requested a duet with the iconic Canadian singer on stage. Little did the audience know, they were about to witness a truly remarkable moment.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Bublé accepted her offer, and Fairbanks showcased her angelic voice right from the start. Despite his legendary fame, Bublé proves in this moment that he’s just like everyone else, stumbling over his words during the duet. Nevertheless, he provides superb harmonic support to Fairbanks, who manages to match his pitch by the end of the song. The two even share a meaningful gaze into each other’s eyes as they work together to find the right pitch.
Michael Bublé is known worldwide as a vocal icon. His vast original discography speaks for itself, but one of the most captivating aspects of Bublé’s talent is his ability to resurrect forgotten songs from the past and give them his unique touch. One of his most well-loved covers is Nina Simone’s timeless “Feeling Good,” which 15-year-old fan Sam Hollyman had the privilege of performing with Bublé during his show at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena.
Interactions with fans are among the most exciting and unexpected moments that occur at live music events. Guest artist collaborations are an exciting surprise, but there’s something truly exhilarating about a fan getting the chance to perform with one of their favorite artists.
One particularly mesmerizing moment occurred when Yayo Sanchez, wearing makeup resembling that of Kiss’ Gene Simmons, was invited to join Dave Grohl on stage during a Foo Fighters concert to play guitar. Not only did young Sanchez flawlessly perform their hit “Monkey Wrench,” but after an electrifying performance, Grohl was left speechless and began bowing to the young guitarist. It’s hard to imagine a higher form of praise.
